First Crapple

I bought my first Crapple recently, not a brand new machine but a G4 for £65

Physical things I noticed:

No HD light on front of case
No front USB light
Short keyboard wire, either G4 needs to be on a desktop or it needs an extension cable
Keyboard USB port only supports very low powered devices (many USB memory sticks wont work)

Software things I noticed:

No right click to arrange icons
No right click to cut and paste icons
Ctrl + X/C/V replaced with Apple Key + X/C/V
Initially no images displayed in Safari (I also installed Flash)
Installing my first program the window minimises to the toolbar and then disappears!
Can't open CD drive except from keyboard (this may be due to age of hardware more than anything) Slow to pick up network connection every time it is started
TextEdit crashed on me

Overall, although I hate it much less than I thought I would when I got back to my PC I thought damn that's fast!

Faulty Corsair HX620w Power Supply

I recently returned a faulty Corsair HX620w Power Supply to Corsair for replacement.

As a resident of the UK I was surprised that I would have to send the faulty unit to the Netherlands.  Before I sent it I asked whether I could just send the power supply itself to save on postage or if everything in the box had to be sent back, I was told everything in the box would have to be sent back.

This cost me £29.49 for the postage (the cheapest service the post office could offer), which was just under half the price of a new power supply.  I accept that this was my decision but with costs like these, the possibility of the parcel getting lost and the possibility of the manufacturer denying responsibility, I think the price would put a lot of poeple off sending it back to them.

I did receive a new power supply, which I am happy about and it was sent to me fairly quickly, however I still did not feel that I should be responsible for the full postage just because the Corsair did not a returns department in the UK.

Below are my email to them and their response:

Dear Corsair,

I have now received my replacement power supply, thank you.

I am not happy however that I have had to pay £29.49 postage to send the item to the Netherlands in the first place, if the item was indeed faulty (I received no report about the fault) surely the postage should be refunded too?

Kind regards,

Dear (I have removed my name),

Thank you for choosing Corsair Memory.

We apologize for the inconvenience, per our return policy we ask that you please pay for the shipping of your defective item to us and we then pay to ship your replacement to you. You can send your replacement to us via USPS which in most cases is the cheapest shipping method or any other carrier using ground service.

Thank you in advance for your understanding. If you have any further questions please let us know.

My advice then if you are considering building your own systems is to check the returns policy of each company you buy from.

Heart Internet Reseller Package

Just a quick note to inform others about my experience with Heart Internet.

My problem was simple; the same script with the same setup was behaving differently on their servers, when I contacted support they simply replied that they do not offer support installing or running scripts.

Rather than go back and forth with support until this got sorted (I simply don’t have the time or the will these days I cancelled the package.

It took over 21 days and several emails to get the refund.

I would also like to point out to others before they part with their cash that the phone number on the site (0845 644 7750) is only for sales!   Tech Support is only offered via their contact form.
